Albinoni: Concerto in D minor for Trumpet and Piano

The Concerto in D minor is perhaps best know for its tender Adagio, full of pathos and lyricism, while the outer movements alternate ebullient accompanying bursts with virtuosic solo diversions.

First published by Estienne Roger of Amsterdam in 1722, Albinoni’s set of twelve concerti Op. 9 was dedicated to Maximilian II Emanuel, Elector of Bavaria. As one of the first Italian composers to write for the oboe – an emerging new instrument – Albinoni developed a unique musical language that combined elegant chromatic harmony with distinctive melodic content, equating the solo oboe not with a violin, but with the operatic qualities of the human voice. The Concerto in D minor is perhaps best know for its tender Adagio, full of pathos and lyricism, while the outer movements alternate ebullient accompanying bursts with virtuosic solo diversions.
