It is rather a rarity to find a piece on a program composed by Carl Doppler alone. His recently discovered Variations sur un air hongrois, composed and published (Budapest 1860) for violin and piano has been out of print for more than 100 years and thus remained unknown. It is well suitable to be played on the flute and presents the composer equal to his brother. The Hungarian tune is a nostalgic poem about homesickness.
