Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759) composed his masterpiece "Messiah" over a period of only three weeks. Ever since its original performance in Dublin in 1714, the piece has achieved status as one of the quintessential cornerstones in western classical music, and it is probably the most well-known piece of church music. And since the 18th century, the work has been performed in its entirety or in selected extracts in various adaptations. Although often performed at Christmas, however, the text is not only about the birth of Jesus. It comprises various texts and passages from both the New and the Old Testament, summarizing the main themes of Christianity and the visions pointing towards the "Messiah," the Son of God, the Savior of the world, our Redeemer. The tradition of adapting music for the everchanging performances is not new, and it has been the most prevalent practice since the baroque period. Most significant is perhaps W. A. Mozart's re-arrangement of the work, which has been particularly popular, periodically performed at concerts and festivals.

The idea of this CD is to adapt parts of the work for trumpet and organ. It is thought as a sequel to our previous CD "St. Matthew Passion" featuring music from the masterpiece of J. S. Bach. As on the previous CD, this album also features choral pieces, recitatives and arias for the different types of trumpet, piccolo, cornet, flugelhorn, Bb and C trumpet in collaboration with the organ.
