The great organ of Aarhus Cathedral is a true masterpiece of North European organ building tradition through four centuries and with 96 stops the largest pipe organ of Denmark.


2018-20 the organ was carefully restored and enlarged by the Danish organ builder company Marcussen & Søn Orgelbyggeri A/S


This publication tells the story of the restoration through text and extensive photo material and for the first time documents the beautiful sounds of the restored instrument in a 2 CD anthology of organ music from Buxtehude to present time.


Kristian Krogsøe (b. 1982) was in 2007 at the age of 24 appointed cathedral organist at the Aarhus Cathedral. In 2022, he was appointed guest professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. He studied with Prof. Ulrik Spang-Hanssen at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus and in the soloist class at the ‘Universität der Künste’ in Berlin, as a pupil of Prof. Leo van Doeselaar and Erwin Wiersinga. He graduated with distinction in 2009. Since his debut at Berliner Dom, Kristian Krogsøe has performed concerts with a wide-ranging repertoire in Denmark as well as abroad.


Anders Johnsson (b. 1969) has since 2000 been the organist at St. Andreas Church in Malmö and associate professor in organ performance at the Malmö Academy of Music, Lund University. He studied with Per Rydén, Hans Hellsten, Mikael Wahlin, and Jean Boyer, and in 1999, he graduated from the soloist class at the Royal Danish Academy of Music as a student of Hans Fagius. In addition he works extensively as an organ consultant, with a focus on historical pipe materials and the reuse of older materials in the creation of new instruments.
